FAQ At the Dentist’s Office

FAQ At the Dentist’s Office

Learn about what your Jacksonville dentist can do for you.

Dental technology has taken huge strides in recent years, implementing lasers and in-office systems to cut out the need for a dental dental procedureslaboratory. However, understanding these high-tech procedures may take some help from your dentist at Schumacher Dental Center in Jacksonville, FL, Dr. James Schumacher.

What is CEREC?

CEREC is an in-office dental system which allows dentists to create porcelain dental restorations right inside their office rather than sending them off for customization at a dental laboratory. Short for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetics Ceramics, CEREC uses CAD/CAM technology to take a 3D model of your mouth and design a dental restoration like a dental implant or veneer. The CEREC system then uses an in-office machine to actually carve and create the restoration from a block of ceramic.

What are dental implants?

Dental implants replace a missing tooth by using a titanium post called a fixture implanted into the jawbone and a porcelain prosthetic tooth which fits on top of the fixture. This surgical procedure gives patients a permanent and aesthetic solution to missing teeth, whether due to injury, decay, extraction, or other circumstances. The prosthetic tooth used in dental implants can be created using a CEREC in-office system.

How can laser dentistry benefit me?

In recent years, laser dentistry has slowly replaced traditional dental drills in many dental practices. This new technology eliminates the anxiety-producing whirr of dental drills and reduces the need for anesthesia. Additionally, laser dentistry can reduce bleeding and its precision helps preserve the most healthy tooth possible during procedures. Laser dentistry can work together with CEREC to provide the most comfortable, fast and effective dental implant procedure.
